Clinical Program

The philosophy of the clinical program is that the capacity to heal from traumatizing experiences as well as to engage in healthy development resides within the child.  Master’s Degree Therapists and consulting professionals encourage and facilitate that healing process and growth within the child.

The mission of the clinical program is to work with the boys and families to improve their psychosocial functioning. The Clinical Director is in charge of the Clinical Department under the Supervision of the Executive Director.

The goal is to help boys to manage their impulses with due consideration of the needs of others and themselves, and to engage in healthy decision making and problem solving. Clinical interventions are designed to help the boys develop strategies to compensate for their problems and gain mastery over traumatizing experiences so as to maximize their functioning.  With the families, the goal is to support them in developing into a nurturing and safe environment for reunification to take place.

Services

The clinical treatment program includes:

Assessment and Treatment Planning. Based upon the results of the 30-day assessment, a treatment plan is developed. A treatment plan meeting or case conference is held every 3 months for the purpose of evaluating progress and updating the treatment plan.

Individual Psychotherapy. Each boy is seen in individual therapy once per week. Sessions might include talk, art, and play therapy activities, as clinically appropriate.

Group Work. Clinical experience has found that group work is a central component in the effective treatment of many problems experienced by the boys residing at Pine Haven. A series of time-limited groups are offered. Children may participate in more than one group per week depending on their treatment goals, when clinically appropriate.

Independent Living Preparation.  Residents, who are 14 or older, are provided with Independent Living Preparation training and counseling.

Family Services. Family therapy, parenting groups, behavior management, limit setting, case management, sibling therapy, supervised visits, assistance to families on weekends.

Psychiatric Services. A Psychiatrist assists in the delivery of treatment services, evaluates the boys’ psychiatric needs, prescribes and monitors psychotropic medications, and monitors staff training in medication administration.
