Educational Program
Pine Haven’s school is a specialized setting which assists students who have personal difficulties, and are often hostile or disinterested toward learning. Teachers work with students to teach them to make constructive decisions, and to improve their attitudes and motivation. The school consists of four non-graded, self-contained, elementary special education classrooms, with students grouped by age, development and ability.
Classroom Setting
The school is an environment wherein the student becomes reoriented to learning. There are a maximum of 8 students in a classroom, allowing for flexibility in the instructional program. The teacher can individualize learning based on students’ needs.
The small classroom minimizes distractions and allows for sufficient social interaction among peers in order to reinforce the socialization process. Attention is focused on achieving the goals prescribed in the Individual Educational Program (I.E.P.).
Academic Program
The curricula are consistent with a regular elementary school situation. All teachers teach Reading, Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies. Computer literacy is developed through direct instruction and use of educational software. Art, Physical Education, and Music instruction are provided by certified teachers. Curricula are logical, sequential, skill-based and measurable. They are revised periodically and are consistent with the Common Core Standards. The students are provided equal access to the N.H. Minimum Standards.
Summer Educational Program
A four week instructional summer program reinforces and solidifies the gains made during the regular school year.
Tutoring
When necessary, remedial tutoring is provided on a one-to-one basis. In this way the student’s learning and skills are reinforced and supplemented. The student’s needs and progress in tutoring are monitored closely.
Educational Evaluations
Educational evaluations and other assessments are provided by the sending school districts or Pine Haven’s consultants. All Students shall participate in the New Hampshire State Assessment System unless parents choose otherwise.
